Beats has confirmed that the revamped Powerbeats Pro 2 wireless earbuds will arrive in 2025, six years after the original model launched in 2019.

Followed by the promise “Coming 2025”, the company teased the new version on Instagram featuring Los Angeles Dodgers player Shohei Ohtani using the updated earbuds.

Powerbeats Pro 2 are coming in 2025

Not many details about the Powerbeats Pro are available at this point. Although no technical specifications are available, the teaser video shows off the new design.

The Powerbeats Pro 2 retain the signature over-the-ear hook. While some may not take too keenly to this design and prefer an in-ear bud, the ear hook is a key sport-friendly design feature and a signature feature of the Powerbeats.

Nevertheless, Beats has refined the design of the Powerbeats Pro with thinner and more rounded ear hooks for a better fit. The all-new carry case seems smaller and more compact too.

The original Powerbeats Pro

The original Powerbeats Pro earbuds have remained popular since their 2019 launch due to their secure fit and good battery life.

However, the original Powerbeats suffer from charging issues whereby the earbuds won’t charge unless placed in the case precisely. Hopefully, Beats has corrected this in the new model and has revamped the sound quality too.

Earbuds have come a long way in the past 5 years and the Powerbeats Pro received mixed reviews on sound quality at launch. With this updated model, we can only wait to see whether Beats has done the leg work and the new Powerbeats will compete in today’s TWS earbud market.

Furthermore, Beats’ parent company Apple offers Beats an advantage in user experience technology. The original earbuds utilise Apple’s H1 microprocessor chip, so the 2025 model will likely include the company’s H2 chip.

Apple’s H1 & H2 chips manage the Bluetooth connection between devices, deliver audio to the drivers and allow the earbuds to communicate and connect. Coupled with improved audio quality, the Apple H2 chip could make the Powerbeats Pro a powerful competitor.

In fact, the teaser comes just as Apple is set to announce new AirPods models.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves because Beats hasn’t released any specific details about the Powerbeats Pro 2s yet. However, like all new Apple products, the 2025 Powerbeats Pro will utilise a USB-C port for charging rather than Apple’s propietary Lightening.
