PETA re-release Prince’s ‘Animal Kingdom’ as a free download
Prince donated a song to PETA in 1999 on their 20th anniversary and now, to commemorate what would be Prince’s 58th birthday they are making the track a free download.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are making Prince’s ‘Animal Kingdom’ track available to all for free 17 years after he donated the track to the organisation. The track was created to promote veganism and the ethical treatment of animals, which is being released by PETA in association with Prince’s ex-wife Mayte Garcia.
In a statement Mayte Garcia said: “Prince didn’t want to celebrate birthdays but [rather to] live life to elevate and educate to the next level of enlightenment. My mission every 7 June is not only to celebrate his birth but also, with PETA, to remember this man by making 7 June a day where Prince fans go vegan to see how much better they feel and to honour his kind legacy.
“PETA has a veg pledge on their site to make it really easy. It all begins this 7 June, when we get together to share our love for Prince and to release the incredible song he donated to PETA – ‘Animal Kingdom’ – as a free download at PETA.org. Prince said, ‘Compassion is an action word with no boundaries’, and that’s our message with this campaign, which everyone can participate in.”
Prince was a vocal supporter of animal rights and PETA throughout his lifetime. He famously remarked: “We need an Animal Rights Day when all slaughterhouses shut down.” Prince’s 58th birthday would have been tomorrow, the 7th of June, and will be marked with a party at PETA’s LA HQ hosted by Mayte Garcia. Celebrity attendees include Russell Simmons, Pamela Anderson, Moby, Tony Kanal, and Belinda Carlisle.
You can download and stream the song here where you can also pledge to go vegan in honour of Prince.
