Former U.S. president, Barack Obama has officially confirmed he’s having a BRAT summer alongside other tunes in his yearly playlist.

Barack Obama’s famous summer playlist picks are here. Each year, the former president picks the songs that are occupying his headphones this summer season, featuring new releases he has discovered and old favourites he’s returning to.

For those in doubt about Obama’s participation in the picks, he confirmed last year that this is no press stunt. He really does love music and claims full responsibility of the songs he shares, saying: “People seem to think, ‘Well, he must’ve had some 20-year-old intern who was figuring out this latest cut’. No, man! It’s on my iPad right now!”

With a track from Charli XCX’s hit new record, Obama confirms that he – alongside Kamala Harris – is having a BRAT summer. Interestingly, the former president picked ‘365’, a song prominently referencing drug usage. Okay Obama, entering your club era in your 60s – we’re here for it.

Elsewhere there are tracks from the year’s other big albums, including Billie Eilish and Beyoncé. Beyoncé is famously a feature in Obama’s song selections each year, making his top songs of 2023 list last year. Whilst it’s a pop bonanza, the ex-president’s song selections are famously ranged and diverse, not falling for the trap of simply choosing what’s popular.

A number of older cuts also make the selection showing Obama’s in something of a nostalgic mood this summer with tracks from Norah Jones, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and Bob Marley & The Wailers.

Obama said: “With summer winding down, I wanted to share some songs that I’ve been listening to lately – and it wouldn’t be my playlist if it didn’t include an eclectic mix. I hope you find something new to listen to!”
