“Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd just became the first track to hit 5 billion streams! Here how the top ten looks as of September 2025.

Recently we’ve been looking at Spotify’s most followed artists and those with the most monthly listeners. Spotify keep this streaming data public and you can find a breakdown of the top 100 most-streamed songs, as well as other listening data on Wikipedia here.

On August 31st, 2025, The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights surpassed 5 billion streams on Spotify. As the most-streamed song on the platform, this is the first time this milestone has ever been hit on Spotify. Uploaded almost six years ago, Blinding Lights took the crown from Shape of You by Ed Sheeran on 31 December 2022, which currently has 4.53 billion streams and held the top position for a record 1,928 days (over five years!)

Today, there are over 30 tracks with over 3 billion streams! Over the last eight months, Perfect by Ed Sheeran has over thrown Believer by Imagine Dragons in the tenth position. Lewis Capaldi and Harry Styles join the +4 billion streams club, alongside The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran. Starboy and Sweater Weather have climbed in the top ten, whilst Someone You Loved, As It Was, and Sunflower have all dropped places. Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood holds the record for the most streams of all-time by a band. Despite releasing over three years ago, As It Was by Harry Styles is the newest release on the top ten.
