Ableton Live users are treated to new free tools in the latest update and a compact one-shot sampler is one of them.

Earlier this year, one of the world’s favourite digital audio workstations launched a big new title update. Ableton Live 12 dropped in March bringing a host of new ways to work, new instruments and tools to use, and enhanced workflows.

Just 3 months later, Ableton gave creators Live 12.1 in beta bringing even more music production potential to get stuck into. Amongst them, we received a new Drum Sampler which Ableton called “small but mighty”. If you’ve upgraded to Live 12 or if you’re considering getting the latest version of the DAW, here’s how to get stuck into it.

Ableton have launched a video with producer Ned Rush exploring how the new Drum Sampler works. Using a simple vocal sample, he uses the new sampler to transform it with the tools and in-built effects. The result is a glitched out, unique rhythmic beat that is totally separate from the original sample.

Drum Sampler is coming in all editions of Live 12.1 – now in public beta. If you’re already using Live 12, join the beta program to try it now, along with Auto Shift, the updated Limiter and Saturator, and all the other new features.

Ableton recently released their 100th video in their One Thing series. Each episode of the series features a producer detailing how to do a single thing in Ableton. With 100 episodes, the series now represents a comprehensive guide to Ableton for music producers whether they’re just getting started or are experienced users looking for new techniques.
