Spotify are introducing a new podcast feed that will finally make it easy to find new episodes from all of the podcasts you follow.

Spotify are finally updating their podcast feeds to make it easy to find new episodes from podcasts that users follow. With 1 in 4 podcast listeners using Spotify, it has been a long time coming.

If you’ve been using Spotify for podcasts, you’ll know how difficult it can be to find new episodes from you favourite podcasts. The new Following feed will be a blessing to many, gathering all of the latest releases from podcasts that users specifically follow.

The new Following feed is now available at the top of the home page. Select the Podcasts button at the top of the home page to reveal the new Following tab that contains the latest releases from all of the podcasts you follow.

Until now, the home feed will randomly display podcasts based on what you follow, what’s popular, and podcasts that Spotify recommends to you. This meant that the podcast you follow might not be presented straight away, and was either a long scroll away or a straight-up search.

Now, listeners can immediately step into a chronological feed of only the podcasts they’ve chosen to follow. Spotify say: “We’ll continue to explore new ways to make this space even better.”

Along with the new ‘Following’ feed, Spotify have updated podcast discovery within the app. Spotify will now recommend podcasts and video podcasts right below shortcuts, presenting listeners with potential new discoveries based on their tastes and what’s hot.

Spotify want to allay the feeling of being bombarded with picks without context. So, they say they will occassionally add a quick note that explains why they feel a podcast recommendation is a good pick for you.

Spotify write that they want to “strike the perfect balance between what you already love and what you’ll love next while giving creators more chances to connect with listeners like you”.

Spotify appear to be doubling down on podcasts, having seen them explode with popularity since expanding their music streaming service with the content in 2019. Earlier this month, they introduced a new feature that showed public view counts on podcast episodes. After backlash from creators, Spotify quickly removed the feature.

However, it shows that Spotify are in the process of making podcasts an even more important part of their music streaming platform. And also, that they are listening to both creators and users as to how to provide the best experience that maximises their engagement.

Also new to Podcasts, Spotify have added an ‘In this episode’ section that allows creators to link to content they mention in their show. The comments section has also been expanded with threads, allowing users to converse with each other underneath a parent comment.

These updates are currently being rolled out globally, so if you don’t have access to them just yet then you should do shortly.
