Antares is offering their Throat physical-modeling voice designer plugin as a free add-on with a 14-day trial of Auto-Tune Unlimited. But throat isn’t “just another” vocal processing plugin! This plugin actually models the human vocal tract and gives you a few settings for manipulating your signal and creating awesome textures.
Ultimately, Antares Throat is “a complete model of the human throat and can manipulate your vocal tracks in subtle and chaotic ways,” reports BPB. The interface gives you a handful of knobs that allow you to manipulate a 3D model of a human throat, while the interface itself is pretty simple and easy to navigate.
On the far left sit three controls for selecting the vocal range, your voice type, and how hard you want the processing to be. Each has a handful of options that become available in drop-down menus.
Then you can adjust the pitch and dial in some detune with a simple fader, and this can be as subtle or extreme as you like. Further to the right sits an “Add Breathiness” tab where a “Mix” and a high pass filter cut-off control sit.
Next comes a “Model Throat” tab where you can adjust the length and width of the voice, where longer and wider sound deeper and short and narrow sound higher. And a “Model Glottal” tab allows you to select whether the voice is loud or quiet and then adjust the pulse width of the signal.
The final tab is the global output tab with a “Level Matching” option, a self-explanatory “Bypass” option, and gain a fader.
Antares Throat is a neat, one-of-a-kind vocal processing plugin that your arsenal is definitely missing. Its interface has a gentle learning curve and won’t take you all that long to add some interesting effects to your signal.
