Anghami, the first legal music streaming platform in the Arab world, have updated their chart algorithm and the way they rank popularity.

Music streaming service Anghami provides Arabic and international music to listeners in the Middle East and North Africa. Anghami recently announced some tweaks to their charting and ranking algorithm.

The streaming platform will now promote older tracks that have seen a resurgence due to social media and other factors. The way Anghami ranks tracks for daily and weekly charts has also been altered, so as not to confuse superfans replaying their favourite songs with fraud streaming. “Issued daily every morning, they’re now based on total plays of the previous day, not on unique users, and capped at 100 plays per user,” says Anghami CTO, Elie Habib.
