Akai Launches MPC Key 37: a compact synth and sampling workstation for artists everywhere
After months of speculation, rumours and leaks, Akai Pro has finally credited the gossip and unveiled the MPC Key 37… and it lives up to the hype.
Akai’s new standalone desktop synth combines portability and functionality in its compact form factor, true to the MPC heritage.
A feature-rich desktop instrument
The MPC Key 37 is a downsized counterpart to its predecessor, the MPC Key 61, with a design that’s compact and lightweight without compromising on functionality.
Equipped with 37 synth-action, velocity-sensitive keys that support aftertouch, as well as pitch bend and modulation wheels, the MPC Key 37 provides expressive tools for composing emotive songs.

True to the MPC legacy, the MPC Key 37 offers 16 velocity-sensitive LED-backlit pads with 8 banks and a 7-inch touchscreen for seamless navigation across the instruments’ synthesis, sampling and sequencing engines.
Furthermore, the MPC Key 37 boasts over 8GB of onboard sound banks and sample content, as well as a voucher for one additional plugin from Akai Pro’s range.
The MPC Key 37 boasts a range of effects and ships with the MPC2 desktop software, meaning you can transition between standalone and computer-based production environments easily.
Under the hood, the MPC Key 37 features a quad-core ARM processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage, with 16GB available for user storage.
A diverse selection of connectivity options are available on the rear with audio & MIDI I/O, CV/Gate ports and an SD card slot. Connect synths, modular racks & modules, monitors and more while Wi-Fi and Bluetooth allow for wireless connections.
One limitation of the MPC Key 37, however, is its reliance on mains power with no battery-powered option. This unfortunately limits its portability, so make sure you’re going somewhere with a power socket.
