The “audio” section of Delta’s in-flight seatback entertainment system will by taken over by Spotify’s most popular playlists and podcasts.
On Spotify there are more than 20 million flight-related user-generated playlists. Now Spotify are hoping to make the experience of listening to music and podcasts on planes easier than ever. A new partnership between Spotify and Delta brings Spotify’s audio content to all Delta flights with seatback entertainment systems globally.
The content available has been licensed directly by Delta, bringing ad-free listening to all passengers for free. Flyers will find music and podcasts in the “audio” section of Delta’s seatback in-flight entertainment systems. With a variety of content and regular updates promised by Spotify, there will be something for everyone, even frequent flyers. Spotify’s editorial experts have specially curated versions of their most popular playlists, along with 42 select podcast series.
Started today, passengers will find playlists include Mood Booster, Are & Be, Hot Country, mint, Today’s Top Hits, Relax & Unwind, RapCaviar, and Ultimate Indie. Playlists coming in the October refresh include Rock This, Roots Rising, and ¡Viva Latino!. Flyers will also find episodes from popular podcasts such as Crime Junkie, Science Vs, StartUp, The Dave Chang Show, The Hottest Take, The Journal.
This is great news for music and podcast lovers on Delta flights, however it removes one of the best features about Spotify, their personalisation. Backed by a wealth of listening data and algorithms, Spotify are one of the most-loved music streaming services due to their on-the-money recommendations of music and shows you’ll love. As there’s seemingly no login system or data access, the system will just provide popular editorial playlists and shows.
