Storytelling through podcasts, that’s Spotify’s new arena
Spotify have purchased Parcast to tell stories through the ever-expanding platform of podcasts on the music streaming giant.
Earlier today Spotify announced their acquisition of Parcast; “a premier storytelling-driven podcast studio”. They’ve been making waves across the podcast world since starting in 2016, with their 18 original series touching on Serial Killers, Cults and Conspiracy Theories, and more.
Parcast’s podcasts will be a valuable addition to Spotify’s podcast offerings which they have been introducing to their music streaming service since 2017. Spotify said at the start of the year that they want 2019 to be the year of the podcast. Whilst music streaming remains their primary business, they are prioritising podcasts for the future of their platform.
Spotify chief content officer, Dawn Ostroff says: “The addition of Parcast to our growing roster of podcast content will advance our goal of becoming the world’s leading audio platform. Crime and mystery podcasts are a top genre for our users and Parcast has had significant success creating hit series while building a loyal and growing fan base. We’re excited to welcome the Parcast team to Spotify and we look forward to supercharging their growth.”
Spotify have given five facts to sum up their new partnership:
- Max Cutler founded Parcast in 2016. Since then, the company has launched eighteen premium series.
- Parcast’s home base is Los Angeles, California, where the company has two studios and over twenty employees.
- You can count the highly popular Unsolved Murders, Cult, Serial Killers and Conspiracy podcasts among Parcast’s high-end, scripted crime and mystery shows.
- These genres are particularly appealing to women—over seventy-five percent of theParcast audience is female.
- Parcast will continue to develop its unique stories. In fact, there are more than twenty new scripted shows focused on topics like crimes of passion, the justice system, and the world’s most resilient survivors slated to launch later this year.
Max Cutler, who founded Parcast and is now it’s president, said: “In three years, we have created a production house that has grown exponentially and hit a chord with mystery and true-crime fans, especially women, across all 50 states and around the world.
“We are proud to join the world’s most popular audio subscription streaming service and gain access to one of the largest audiences around the world. Alongside Spotify, our ability to scale, grow and amplify the unique and tailored brand of content we create is full of fantastic possibilities.”
