ALPHA CENTAURI brings his story to life on debut album ‘The Future Right Now’
ALPHA CENTAURI announces his debut album, The Future Right Now, blending hip-hop, funk, R&B and Afrobeat with honest stories of ambition and perseverance.
International hip-hop artist ALPHA CENTAURI has released his debut album, The Future Right Now, a 10-track project that brings together hip-hop, funk, R&B, Afrobeat, jazz and indie rock with deeply personal storytelling.
Now available on all major streaming platforms, the album marks a significant milestone for the Vancouver-based artist, whose journey to music has taken him from a career in law in Zimbabwe to performing alongside internationally recognised artists and developing his own sound in Canada.
The album features previously released tracks including “The Future Right Now,” “Never Be,” “Grow,” “Get Your Money Up,” “We Rise” and “Higher Up,” alongside new material that expands on the themes established throughout ALPHA’s music.
At the heart of The Future Right Now is the experience of pursuing a creative ambition while navigating the responsibilities and expectations of everyday life.
“It dives into the pressure artists face, family expectations, financial strain, and the internal weight of being a responsible adult while staying dedicated to making music,” says ALPHA CENTAURI.
“It’s about prioritizing my needs as an artist over what everyone else told me to do. I want my words to inspire people to work toward their target and ignore the haters. My journey has had plenty of conflict, but I never gave up. I’m still here.”
That journey began in Zimbabwe, where ALPHA was educated and licensed as a lawyer. He eventually stepped away from the corporate career path to pursue music in North America, bringing with him a perspective shaped by the decision to trade conventional expectations for a creative career.
That determination runs through The Future Right Now, both lyrically and musically.
Produced by Wes Smith and mixed by acclaimed engineer Justin Hicks, the album draws on the energy of ALPHA’s eight-piece live band. Rather than staying within a single genre, the record moves between hip-hop, funk, Afrobeat, jazz, R&B and indie rock, with live instrumentation adding another dimension to its sound.
The project also brings together a broad group of musicians and collaborators. Jr. Atlas and Ashes 5thBorn contribute guest verses, while Edmonton vocalist Aurah Ariko features on the record. Horn and keyboard arrangements come from Dominic Conway, Brent Mah of Five Alarm Funk and Johnny Tobin.
The album’s core band includes Richard Brown on drums, Cuyler Biller on guitar, Owen Owen Owen on bass, and Alli Bean and Max Zipursky on keys.
Alongside his recorded work, ALPHA has developed a reputation as a live performer, sharing stages with artists including Method Man & Redman, Ja Rule, Chali 2na & Cut Chemist of Jurassic 5, The OBGMs and Moka Only.
He has also performed at major Western Canadian events including the Khatsalano Street Party, Calgary Stampede and the official Victoria Canada Day Party.
With The Future Right Now now out, the album represents the beginning of a wider chapter for ALPHA CENTAURI. Alongside his solo work, he is developing Star Maps, a pop collective mixed by Matt Bishop, as well as R&B project The Golden Hour Collective.
International touring plans are also in development, with a sophomore album planned for 2027.
For ALPHA CENTAURI, however, the focus remains firmly on the present. The Future Right Now is a record about continuing to work towards the life you want, even when the path there doesn’t look the way others expected.
