TikTok partners with South Korean music streaming service Melon to enable fast saving of music between apps.

TikTok launched their “Add to music app” feature in the US and UK in November last year. Since then, it has expanded to more countries over the past year. It allows users to quickly save songs from the short-form video app to their preferred streaming service right from the audio page. Once you’ve connected an app, this will be your default service. You can select between Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and now Melon.

Kakao Entertainment owned service Melon is the most popular music streaming platform in South Korea, with around 6 million active users.

With the news last month of the closure of their own music streaming service TikTok Music, TikTok announced they would instead put their focus in the “Add to music app” feature.

Since the launch of Add To Music App, we have seen the TikTok community fully embrace the opportunity to save the songs they discover to the music streaming service of their choice. Our new partnership with Melon means that millions more music fans in Korea will be able to save, share and listen again to music that they fell in love with on TikTok.

Michael Kümmerle, Global Head of Music Partnership Development, TikTok

We believe that our partnership with TikTok, which is the leading social media platform for music discovery, will be incredibly popular with our existing users and attract more music fans. As a leading music streaming platform, we will continue our efforts to enhance the value of music together with other major partners in each sector.

Minwoo Han, Head of the Melon Business Department, Kakao Entertainment Corp.

Last week, Instagram launched a very similar feature for Spotify users. We’d love to see these features copied across platforms and expand to as many services as possible, as they are a benefit for all, from video platform, to streaming service, to artists.
