Spotify are celebrating the huge success of Korean music which has grown an unbelievable amount and at a surprising rate.

At a K-Pop Talks even in South Korea, Spotify revealed that streams of K-Pop are up 362% since 2018., In that 6 year period artists from South Korea have grown an impressive 182% in the U.S., but they’ve really shined in south-east Asia, growing an astonishing 423%.

The coverage by Korea Times shares a statement by Spotify Korea’s music head, Park Jung-joo, saying: “K-pop has become the global force, with artists breaking into international charts like Billboard. K-Pop, which started in Korea, is being connected with fans around the world through many artists.”

Evidencing the significant growth of both South Korean music and Spotify’s in-house playlists, their K-Pop hub ‘K-Pop ON! (온)‘ has grown 5,600% since 2015. Spotify are quick to point out that all this K-Pop success isn’t simply from the same biggest artists over the year. K-Pop remains fresh as four of the 5 most streamed K-Pop tracks in the first half of 2024 came from newer artists: Illit, Le Sserafim, and Babymonster.

They still nod their hats to the all-time hitmakers, celebrating the eighth anniversary of Blackpink’s first release. Since then, they have grown 110% each year to amass a total of over 13 billion streams.
