At Knobcon 2024, VCV Rack announced its new subscription service that offers unlimited acccess to its arsenal of synth modules.

If you haven’t heard of VCV rack, it’s a virtual modular synthesizer software that emulates the workflows and modules of Eurorack – the standardised modular synth form factor.

VCV’s new subscription plan, VCV+, offers unlimited access to its vast library of premium modules, both VCV-branded and third-party options.

VCV+ subscription

Since its inception in 2016, VCV Rack’s modular software synth ecosystem has earned much praise for the quality of its detailed emulation of Eurorack hardware. Put simply, it mirrors the workflows of physical Eurorack modules while making modular synthesis an easier learning process.

Originally free and open source, CVC Rack later developed a Pro version with added VST plugin support, meaning the software has been compatible with DAWs since 2021.

Now, with VCV+, you get access to the VCV Rack Pro version and its continuously expanding set of premium modules for a monthly cost of $29 per month.

Why subscribe to CVC+?

The biggest & most immediate benefit of the new VCV+ subscription is that it grants access to all VCV-branded modules. These include popular modules like VCV Pluck, VCV Drums, and the VCV Pro collection.

Furthermore, your monthly subscription buys access to virtual Eurorack emulation modules from well-known hardware manufacturers such as Synthesis Technology and ALM Busy Circuits.

Beyond VCV and official emulations, a CVC+ subscription provides hundreds of premium third-party modules, meaning CVC’s catalogue is constantly updated with new tools for sound designers and producers.

Alongside the VCV+, the company announced several new modules at Knobcon 24. These include the Synthesis Technology E352 quad morphing VCO and the E370 wavetable oscillator.

It’s worth noting the flexibility of CVC+ here. You can experiment with new modules without incurring additional costs, meaning you can try new setups and share patches with other subscribers without paying a penny more.

Not another subscription…

Of course, it’s easy to be disillusioned by yet another software company offering its services in a subscription pricing model in today’s world of subscription plans everywhere.

However, VCV Rack remains available as a free download and you can still buy individual modules with proprietary licenses. CVC Rack has stressed its subscription model only provides an alternative way to access its catalogue of modules without making separate purchases.

The VCV+ subscription is priced at $29 per month or $19 per month with an annual commitment ($228 per annum).

VCV has also implemented a new 7-day refund policy. You can request a full refund within a week if you’re unsatisfied with your VCV+ subscription or proprietary license purchase purchase.
