UK Top 40 Now Includes Streaming Music Services
Last Sunday (06/07/2014) saw the first top 40 UK singles chart to be made of both sales and streams. Announced last month by the Official Charts Company, streams will from the above date count towards the chart. With streaming becoming huge in the way people listen to music today, whether through Spotify, Deezer, Xbox Music etc. it seems about time streams should be taken into account. Each 100 streams consisting of 30 seconds of playing or more, counts as one sale.
Ariana Grande was placed at number 1 this week. Her hit featured 106,000 sales and 712,000 streams. Streaming sites include, but aren’t exclusive to, Spotify, Deezer, Napster, O2 Tracks, Xbox Music, Sony’s Music Unlimited and Rara.
