TikTok pushes creators toward livestreaming to boost revenue and reach
With $10 million in daily revenue and over 30 million daily viewers, TikTok Live is fast becoming a key platform for creators to grow their fanbase and earn more.
TikTok Live is booming
TikTok has been doubling down on livestreaming as a major revenue and engagement driver for creators. At a recent in-person event at its New York headquarters, TikTok shared impressive stats about Live’s viewership and revenue potential to encourage creators to embrace livestreaming.
For artists and creators, TikTok Live offers a way to connect with fans in real time, and build revenue streams beyond music and short-form video views.
TikTok Live’s revenue potential is growing fast
TikTok is honing in on the revenue opportunities that can be made through Live. TikTok creators are now earning a collective $10 million daily through livestreams. In the past 30 days, TikTok Live generated $63 million in revenue. Notably, over 80% of that came from creators with fewer than 50,000 followers, showing that smaller accounts can still earn money through Live.
These earnings come from virtual gifts that fans purchase and send during livestreams. Creators receive a percentage of the gift’s value, offering a direct monetization method that comes directly from your fans- especially when compared to TikTok’s Creator Fund which gives creators a $0.02- $0.04 cut of TikTok’s advertising revenue per video view.
“Creators should be rewarded for the time and effort it takes to go live, engage with their fans, community and new viewers.”
Shen Gao, TikTok Head of Live Operations
Reach more fans
Over 30 million users are watching TikTok livestreams every day, and around 400,000 creators go live daily. That’s a huge opportunity for artists and creators to reach new fans and engage existing ones using Live.
TikTok has been helping creators to succeed on Live by supporting them through educational tools, including:
- A dedicated Discord server for TikTok Live creators and creator networks
- Webinars for support
- Virtual training sessions through Zoom
These tools are designed to help creators feel more confident going live and understand how to best engage audiences and drive revenue.
Use livestreams to drive sales and build your brand
Livestreaming goes beyond direct interaction with fans, it’s also a powerful way to drive music sales and merchandise. TikTok Shop has become an important part of the platform. Through livestreams, artists and creators can promote your TikTok Shop products directly to fans.
Artists are already using TikTok Shop to boost music sales and fan engagement. Live adds another layer to build your artist brand and promote directly to fans.
TikTok’s future
While TikTok is pushing Live for creators, the platform’s future in the US still hangs in the balance. A potential US ban deadline has been pushed back to June 19, but its fate is currently unresolved. If the platform were removed, it could make TikTok’s efforts for Live futile.
For now, TikTok is encouraging creators to explore Live as a powerful tool for growth and income. The opportunity is real, and it’s clearly paying off for thousands of creators.
