Look out Instagram, TikTok now have an image-sharing app to rival Instagram years after the social media giant launched Reels.

Years ago when TikTok‘s explosion across the world was still novel, Instagram launched Reels. Alongside YouTube Shorts and apps like Triller, many tried to jump on TikTok’s format as its trends took over the world. These short-form, vertical videos looked to replicate the viral and addictive user-created entertainment that TikTok had cultivated.

Now TikTok are pushing back with the launch of Notes, their very own app for sharing images with friends and beyond. The app lets users upload a picture or gallery to their feed with a caption to share the special moments of their days. Somewhat distinguishing it from being a total Instagram clone, users can add titles to their posts.

The app looks a little different too, with images placed next to each other in the feed with a more vertical focus than Instagram’s classic square format.

TikTok revealed the app earlier in the month. It is seen as a natural extension of the image sharing features available on TikTok. All photo posts on TikTok will be automatically uploaded to Notes, however users can turn off automatic sharing from their TikTok app.

TikTok Notes is now available to download for Android and iOS users across Australia and Canada. TikTok state that users can access the app “for download and limited testing”. There is no information just yet as to when we might expect TikTok Notes to launch further into the US or beyond.
