Spotify partners with ChatGPT for smarter music discovery and personalization
Spotify is now integrated into your ChatGPT chats, bringing more personalized playlists and smarter recommendations.
Spotify teams up with ChatGPT
Spotify is all about trying to reach listeners wherever they are. Now, Spotify’s latest integration allows users to bring Spotify right into your ChatGPT conversations. That makes it easier than ever for users to get tailored music and podcast recommendations.
Whether you’re planning a weekend road trip, a chill night in, or looking to discover new artists, Spotify can now help craft the perfect soundtrack- all through ChatGPT.
How it works
To get started is easy, just mention Spotify in your ChatGPT conversation. The first time you do, ChatGPT will prompt you to connect your Spotify account. From there, it’s as simple as asking for what you want. Ask for a playlist that fits a certain occasion, some tracks based on your recent listening, or recommended podcasts on a particular topic.
ChatGPT will then use context from your conversation to recommend playlists or songs that match. Have a chat about planning a roadtrip? Add in Spotify and get ChatGPT to cook up the perfect playlist.
Once you’ve found something you like, just tap the link and jump straight into Spotify, no extra steps needed.

Spotify says it’s still early days so they “might not be able to deliver on every request just yet,” but they’re working to improve the experience. For now, they say to add specific details like the genre, mood, or artist for the best results.
Why it matters
The partnership is all about personalization. ChatGPT uses the context of your chat to fine-tune its recommendations, giving users an easy way to discover music. Whether you’re talking about your favorite artists or planning a vibe-specific playlist, Spotify now fits seamlessly into your ChatGPT chats.
For artists and creators, this is another opportunity for discovery. ChatGPT’s recommendations mean that users might stumble across new songs or artists they wouldn’t have found otherwise. It’s a powerful way for artists to reach fresh ears through AI-driven recommendations.
Importantly, Spotify confirmed that while it collaborates with OpenAI to enable this feature, it does not share any music, podcasts, or other content with OpenAI for training its models. Essentially, Spotify is ensuring that artists’ and creators’ work remains protected. For users, it’s an opt-in experience that can be connected or disconnected at any time.
AI and the bigger picture
The news comes at a time when Spotify is leaning heavily into its personalization tools. The most recent of which being the ability to exclude specific tracks from your taste profile, allowing more accurate recommendations.
This integration also comes as Spotify continues to balance innovation with responsibility in its use of AI. Recently, Spotify strengthened its AI policies to protect creators from misuse, including restrictions on AI voice cloning and spammy AI-generated content. Meanwhile, this ChatGPT integration builds on Spotify’s existing AI features for music discovery, such as Spotify’s AI DJ.
Where it’s available
The feature is now available to Spotify Free and Premium users across 145 countries. It works in English on ChatGPT Free, Plus, and Pro accounts via both web and mobile (iOS and Android).
