Spotify’s podcast monetization program is reaching new audiences, offering new monetization opportunities to more creators.

Spotify’s Partner Program expansion

Spotify’s Partner Program (SPP) has been a transformative opportunity for podcast creators, offering greater control and new monetization abilities. Since its launch in January 2025 in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, the program has seen significant success. Now, Spotify is expanding the SPP to nine new markets, available on April 29: France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Ireland, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

What the Spotify Partner Program works

The SPP offers fresh opportunities for podcast creators to generate income. By providing creators with a share of Premium subscriber payouts, ad revenue from Spotify Free members and other podcast platforms, creators can earn a meaningful income. In doing so, Spotify aims to empower creators with tools to earn a consistent income, without relying on sponsorship interest, seasonality, or market shifts.

“We want every creator in the SPP to have the opportunity to earn a consistent, sustainable, and meaningful income.”

Shekinah George-Lawal, Senior Account Executive at Spotify

Since its launch, the SPP has demonstrated remarkable success. In January 2025 alone, creator payouts increased by 300% compared to January 2024. Top podcast creators earned six-figure revenues in the first month of the year alone, with hundreds more seeing monthly earnings of $10,000 or more.

Video content on the rise

Video podcasts are on the rise, and Spotify is positioning itself as the premier platform for both audio and video content. Creators are publishing 50% more video podcasts year-over-year, and nearly two-thirds of users now prefer podcasts with video.

“We’re seeing some exciting early results as the top 20 eligible video podcasts have seen an average 24%-plus growth of consumption, and video consumption on Spotify is up more than 20% since the program’s launch.”

Shekinah George-Lawal, Senior Account Executive at Spotify

What this expansion means for creators and listeners

With SPP now available in more markets, creators can increase their revenue by reaching more premium subscribers, and gaining more ad revenue from these additional regions. However, this expansion isn’t just beneficial for podcasters- it also enhances the listener experience:

  • Bigger and better podcast selection: More creators joining the program means a richer content catalog for listeners.
  • Flexible viewing options: More viewers can benefit from video podcasts that can be toggled between background and foreground playback.
  • Ad-free experience for Premium users: While “baked-in” sponsorships remain, Premium users can enjoy an otherwise ad-free listening experience.

Moving forward

The expansion of the SPP underscores Spotify’s commitment to being a leader in both audio and video streaming. With podcasting evolving into a more visual and interactive experience, Spotify is investing in tools and incentives that benefit both creators and audiences.

“Spotify is committed to providing creators with more options to grow their audience and engage with fans on the format that best suits their style and show – either audio, video or both. As we continue to evolve and expand the Spotify Partner Program, we are focusing on increased revenue and consumption for creators.”

Roman Wasenmüller, Head of Podcast Business at Spotify
