Spotify’s new SongDNA feature turns listening into discovery, helping fans trace the people behind every track.

After teasing the feature late last year, Spotify has officially begun rolling out SongDNA in beta. The new experience available to Premium listeners, is designed to shine a spotlight on the people, influences, and connections behind the music we listen to every day.

What is Spotify’s SongDNA?

SongDNA is an interactive feature built directly into the Now Playing screen. With a simple scroll, listeners can dive straight into SongDNA and uncover more about every song. Users can explore everything from the collaborators behind a track, the samples and interpolations that shaped it, as well as any covers it may have inspired.

The data seen in SongDNA comes from artists, their teams, and community-sourced data. If you’re an eligible artist, head to Spotify for Artists to manage the SongDNA for your music.

Explore connections too

SongDNA can also be used to visualize relationships across music. It doesn’t just tell you who worked on a song, it shows how artists are connected to each other through the people they’ve worked with. It’s a cool way to see how artists are connected across different genres, eras, and scenes.

So far, Spotify has already uncovered an unexpected link between Harry Styles and the Wu-Tang Clan: Harry Styles John Mayer Pino Palladino D’Angelo The RootsWu-Tang Clan.

Why this matters

SongDNA builds on Spotify’s push to properly recognize all contributors behind a track. Whether it’s songwriters, producers, engineers, or session musicians behind the scenes, these roles often go unrecognized. With SongDNA, those contributions are no longer just visible, but discoverable.

For those in the industry, that kind of discoverability only drives opportunity. When listeners can easily trace who worked on what, it creates more pathways for recognition, and potentially future work.

A feature full of potential

Even in a beta rollout, SongDNA feels like a meaningful addition. It bridges the gap between listeners and creators. It allows fans to step in and actively discover those behind every track, while ensuring creatives get the visibility and recognition they deserve.

Spotify adds that the feature is rolling out globally for Premium users on iOS and Android mobile devices, with a wider rollout to all Premium users over the coming months.
