Spotify updates Discovery Mode reports with new campaign insights
Spotify has expanded its Discovery Mode performance reports, giving artists more ways to understand how campaigns are affecting listeners, streams, and fan engagement.
Getting your music discovered is one of the biggest challenges for independent artists. But once a promotional tool has been used, understanding whether it actually helped can be just as important.
Spotify Discovery Mode is a promotional tool that helps artists get selected songs in front of listeners through personalised listening experiences. Available through Spotify for Artists, it also provides reporting that helps artists understand listener behaviour and campaign performance.
Spotify has now updated its Discovery Mode performance reports, adding more insight into how campaigns influence streams, listeners, and engagement on the platform.
How Spotify’s Discovery Mode reporting works
Discovery Mode allows artists and labels to select priority songs they want to promote. Spotify adds this signal to the algorithms that power personalised listening sessions, increasing the likelihood that selected tracks are recommended to listeners who may enjoy them. As Digital Music News reports, Spotify has now expanded the reporting available for Discovery Mode campaigns with new ways for artists to measure their impact.
Through Spotify for Artists, artists can access performance reports that show how their campaigns are performing across three key areas:
- Audience growth – how a campaign increased overall listeners, including new listeners who had not streamed an artist’s music on Spotify in the previous two years.
- Long-term engagement – how a campaign drove high-value listener actions that suggest future listening intent, including saves, playlist adds, and intent rate. Spotify calculates these insights using a 14-day attribution window after initial exposure.
- Streams – how a campaign drove streams for selected songs within Discovery Mode contexts.
These metrics help artists understand overall campaign performance, as well as how individual songs are performing throughout a Discovery Mode campaign.
New ways to measure Discovery Mode impact
Spotify has introduced additional insights to help artists understand how Discovery Mode may have influenced streams and listeners and, as Digital Music News puts it, “prove [a campaign’s] worth”.
Campaign stream and listener lift provides an estimate of how streams in Discovery Mode contexts have changed compared with what Spotify estimates would have happened without Discovery Mode during the campaign period.
These estimates are created using a machine learning model that considers different signals, including historical song performance on Spotify, an artist’s monthly listeners and genre, and previous appearances in personalised playlists.
Spotify notes that these figures are estimates rather than predictions, and they may change over time as more data becomes available.
Alongside this, Historical stream lift and Historical listener lift show how an enrolled song’s performance in Discovery Mode contexts has changed compared with the 28 days before its first Discovery Mode campaign.
What these insights mean for independent artists
For artists using Discovery Mode, these updates make it easier to understand how campaigns are affecting reach and engagement.
Streams are only part of the picture. Saves, playlist adds, and returning listeners can all show that a release is building a stronger connection with its audience.
Spotify also notes that campaign results can be influenced by wider activity, including organic trends on and off the platform, social media moments, playlist placements, and other marketing efforts.
Why better streaming data matters
As discovery becomes increasingly shaped by algorithms and personalised recommendations, understanding listener behaviour is an important part of planning releases.
For independent artists and labels, performance data can show where listeners are finding music, what actions they take after listening, and which promotional strategies are worth continuing.
Whether using tools like Discovery Mode or building an audience through other channels, having clearer data helps artists make more informed decisions about future releases.
