A new feature that helps listeners understand songs across languages and helps artists reach worldwide audiences is coming to Spotify.

Spotify lyric translations are rolling out now

Spotify has revealed that lyric translations are coming. Powered by Spotify’s partnership with MusixMatch, the feature helps to bridge the language barrier across global audiences.

Rumors of a lyrics translation feature nothing new. In fact, Reddit users first spotted early references to tests of the feature four years ago.

Fast forward four years, and Reddit users were the first to spot it again. This time, fans found the feature when looking at the lyrics for Rosalía’s new album, LUX. That discovery set off a wave of speculation, before Spotify actually confirmed the feature in a statement to TechRadar:

“Rosalía’s album is among the first to feature lyrics translations in 13 different languages through Spotify’s expanded MusixMatch partnership. With the integration now live in key markets like the US and Spain (as of November 7), listeners worldwide can instantly understand her lyrics, bridging the gap between her sound and global audience.”

Right now, lyric translations are only visible in select major markets like the US, but a wider rollout is expected to follow.

Why Rosalía was the perfect launch artist

Launching the feature alongside Rosalía’s LUX wasn’t a random coincidence. The album has been making headlines since its launch last week, and broke the record for the most-streamed album in a single day by a Spanish-speaking female artist.

That’s not the only thing that makes it the perfect test subject though. The album is packed with lyrics in 13 different languages. Thanks to this feature, listeners no longer need to know any of those languages that Rosalía includes in her music too. Instead, they can simply read along.

What this means for artists

For artists, features like this are huge. That’s especially true for those working in multilingual or non-English markets.

Fans anywhere can now follow along and resonate with the music, regardless of their native language. With this deeper understanding, more people can connect with your music, and that could translate into more potential fans.

The bigger picture

For Spotify, the feature could also be part of a bigger battle at hand. Spotify’s rollout lands not long after Apple Music introduced its own Lyrics Translation tool as part of its wider iOS 26 update back in September. With Spotify now doing the same, it could just be a sign of the competitive streaming landscape we find ourselves in.

Each streaming service is always looking for new ways to enhance their platform for artists and listeners alike. Not only does this feature allow Spotify audiences everywhere to understand the lyrics behind their favorite songs, but it also helps artists communicate their stories more effectively.
