Sony ULT FIELD 5 and ULT FIELD 3: Sony’s new bass-focused mid-range Bluetooth speakers
Sony just launched new ULT POWER SOUND speakers. ULT FIELD 3 and ULT FIELD 5 are the smaller and less expensive options.
Debuted last year, Sony’s ULT POWER SOUND series are their bass-focused lineup of speakers and headphones. Alongside a new massive ULT TOWER 9 party speaker, Sony launched two new, more portable options. The ULT FIELD 3 is the smaller and less expensive of the two, replacing the SRS-XE300. The new ULT FIELD 5 is a physically larger speaker, more expensive model, providing a bigger sound, which replaces the SRS-XG300.
Both new speakers sport a new boxier design which can be used horizontally or stood up vertically. They both feature detachable shoulder straps to give more carrying options.
The ULT FIELD 3 has a two-way active driver design, with a front-facing dedicated woofer and tweeter, and side passive radiators to enhance bass. The ULT FIELD 5 has an X-Balanced Speaker Unit, two front-facing tweeters, one woofer and two passive radiators.
As with all new speakers announced, there’s an ULT button on top to activate bassy sound profiles. ULT FIELD 3 has ULT1, which is a deeper, lower frequency option. ULT FIELD 5 has the addition of ULT 2 as well, which enables a powerful punchy bass profile. The Sony Sound Connect app can be used to further customize the sound to your taste. ULT FIELD 3 has a 7-band EQ, while the ULT FIELD 5 has a 10-band EQ.
The ULT FIELD 5, like its predecessor has 360° Party Lights on both ends. The improved lighting system is synchronized to the music. Unfortunately, the ULT FIELD 3 does not have lights.
ULT FIELD 3 has up to 24 hours of playback. This is reduced to just 5 hours with bass boosted and at maximum volume. ULT FIELD 5 will last for up to 25 hours with ULT1 or ULT2 enabled and the lighting off. Turning the lights on drops the battery to 10 hours. Pump up the volume to maximum and you’ll get just 2.5 hours of playback.
Both the ULT FIELD 3 and 5 are IP67 waterproof, protecting the speakers again water, dust and salt-water.
Both the ULT FIELD 3 and 5 have smart features like Party Connect, Multipoint Connection, and Bluetooth Fast Pair.
Both speakers are available in Black or Off White. The ULT FIELD 3 is additionally available in a new Forest Gray color. The ULT FIELD 3 is $199.99. The larger ULT FIELD 5 is $329.99.
