Sonos Ace software update improves ANC, calls, TV Audio Swap and introduces TrueCinema
Sonos’ wireless headphones get a major new software update, introducing new and improved features to the one-year-old Ace headphones.
In June last year, after much anticipation, Sonos launched their first pair of Bluetooth headphones. Now, one year later, Sonos are rolling out a software update that introduces some great new features.
One of the best features of the Sonos Ace is TV Audio Swap. For owners of Sonos soundbars, the feature lets users quickly switch from the speaker to headphones. Now, TV Audio Swap supports two simulateous users. Two individuals, each with a pair of Sonos Ace can now listen to the same TV audio in sync.
This next feature is an entirely new one. Supposed to launch late last year, TrueCinema brings a surround sound, 3D experience to your headphones. Similar to Sonos’ TruePlay, TrueCinema uses a the sound bar and microphones on the headphones to measure a room’s acoustics and adapt the audio to your unique space. Spatial audio and Dolby Atmos have been common features for high-end headphones, so it will be interesting to see how well Sonos pull their take on the feature off.
Active Noise Cancellation is getting smarter. While the headphones launched with Active Noise Cancellation, the update uses advance sensors to compensate for sound leaks, adapting to hair, glasses and hats in real-time.
Finally, Sonos are promising enhanced call clarity. This comes from high resolution audio and a new feature called SideTone, which passes through some of your voice while you’re in a call and ANC is on. By hearing your own voice, this should help with smoother, more natural calls.
This free software update is rolling out to all users now.
We’re pleased to deliver experiences we’ve heard our customers ask for, like the ability for two people to watch TV with their Sonos Ace headphones at the same time. We’ve also worked hard on our TrueCinema technology to create an incredible open-air listening effect so it feels like you aren’t wearing headphones.
