RouteNote now requires composer and lyricist details on upload
You may spot a couple of slight changes on RouteNote. Composer and lyricist details are now required on all new releases.
RouteNote just rolled out an update to the album and track details pages of new releases. Users are now required to fill out the first and last names of any composers of a release under the Publishing Information section. Also, if your release contains lyrics, you must tick “Yes” below the label “Does this release contain lyrics?”, then fill out first and last names here too.

Once you’ve filled out the Album Details page and start adding tracks, the Album Details will automatically be added to the Track Details. You can alter or add additional composers and lyricists on a track level here.

If you wrote, performed and produced your own release, just fill in the boxes with your details. If the release contains cover songs, be sure to include the original composers here. If your release is classical, you’ll need to list the composer within the artist roles, as well as in the new Publishing Information section. Be sure to use legal names, not stage names.
Composer and lyricist steps are required for all new releases. If you want, you can go back and update older releases with these new details too.
These new changes will help us push our publishing efforts to more users and improve the accuracy of cover release metadata. This can also increase the searchability, discoverability and engagement of your release too!
Hi,
Thank you for your efforts to develop RouteNote, but what about non-music releases (like field recordings)? Do they need the composer’s name since there’s no composed music?
Regards,
Hey,
If you recorded the audio, then you should credit yourself as the composer.
Thanks for replying.
What if the audio is in the public domain and the name of the recorder is unknown?
Do I need to use my real name as a composer or I can somehow use my artist name (My artist name is without spaces, only 1 word)
Hey,
The publishing details section of your release requires you to enter the first and last name of any composers and lyricists involved in the release.
We ask for your first and last name as these are the identifiers (as well as track/album names) that are used in order to pay publishing earnings to songwriters.
It is crucial that you enter this information in order to make sure publishing royalties flow to the correct rightsholder.
If you do not enter the accurate first and last name, then our partner stores, MROs and PROs are less likely able to identify you when it comes to paying out these royalties, and can lead to missed income for yourself and the rightsholders of your compositions.
Hello!
I have couple questions:
Do i put producer’s name in composer line in case i use someone’s else instrumental, doing other stuff on my own?
If previous answer – yes:
What about the cases when producers want to stay unknown or you can’t contact them?
What do i do with artist names consist only of 1 word?
Hey,

Terrible change. Instead of 100% requiring it, why can’t it just be heavily encouraged?

I went through the thread and I have few questions.
If my artist name is without spaces (1 word)
And if I use my First and Last Name in the Composer or Lyricist section.
1. Will it (My Real Name) be visible for everyone on streaming platforms?
2. If visible, can you make I hide it from listeners and exclusively share it just with RouteNote?
3. If not then it’s really a Downpoint because I want to keep my privacy without giving out my real name
Thanks for getting in touch.
Our Publishing team will be more than happy to assist you with this! If you can send this information over to publishing@routenote.com along with your username or user ID, they will be able to support you further.

so, it’s a COVER SONG and i do not know the composer/lyricist personally myself. they only go by a stage name (no last name, just すりぃ)
how do i properly credit them as composer/lyricist?
If only the composer of a cover song is available (eg in spotify credits, ace, or songview) what do we put in for lyricist? Can we leave that blank, or do we replicate what we put in composer?
Here’s our support guide on formatting a cover, just scroll down to the bit about publishing info – https://support.routenote.com/kb-article/how-do-i-format-a-cover-with-routenote/
