Instagram have announced that they now reach a whopping 3 billion monthly active users, making it the perfect place to reach new listeners.

Instagram is closing in on becoming the most popular social media app in the world. Instagram head Adam Mosseri just announced that Instagram has hit a milestone of 3 billion monthly active users (MAUs).

Instagram’s parent company Meta also run Facebook, which still remains on top with 3.07 billion MAUs reported this year. However, with slower growth, Instagram may be taking Facebook on for the biggest social media platform in the world.

Mosseri points to a few features in particular that are driving serious growth on Instagram, writing: “Messaging, reels, and recommendations have driven most of our recent growth.” He goes on to say that the Instagram app will be reorganised over the next few months to prioritise those features.

Mosseri continues: “We’ll soon start testing a way for you to tune your algorithm by adding and removing topics based on your interests, starting with reels. We hope this will be a meaningful new way to shape what you see.”

Whilst the move towards more emphasis on Reels and recommended content is clearly driving growth and engagement, it hasn’t been without criticism. Some users report that it has become more difficult to find content by the people they follow or that it’s harder to see traditional photo content if that’s what they’re interested in.

Instagram’s planned reorganisations may help to make the app better suit whatever the user’s interest. However, for now we don’t know what the planned updates will introduce.
