Gibson announces Kirk Hammett Greeny Les Paul

Gibson has announced a new Collectors Edition Kirk Hammett “Greeny” 1959 Les Paul guitar.
Limited to 50 units, Gibson has described the new guitar as an “exacting replica” of Greeny – one of music’s most iconic Les Paul guitars which is now owned by Kirk Hammett, reports Guitar.com.
Gibson has said that Hammett was involved in the prototyping process too. The company has said that he “ensure[d] every detail was faithful to the original.”
Moreover, Hammett first suggested that this Greeny replica was happening in back 2020 via an Instagram post.
The Greeny Les Paul build
The Kirk Hammett Greeny Les Paul is constructed with a mahogany body, a two-piece figured maple top, and cream binding.
Furthermore, the guitars also sport Murphy Lab aging so it matches the original too. And each will be handmade at the Gibson Custom Shop.
The pickups are constructed with two Custom Greeny Humbuckers with Alnico 2 magnets.
And the neck pickup is reverse-mounted for a distinct out-of-phase middle position sound, just like the original.
Collectors edition packages
Upon purchase, you’ll get a certificate of authenticity in addition to a signed photo of Kirk Hammett. Coupled with the included black leather strap, a special pick tin, and picks, and a custom hardshell case, you’re getting a lot of bang for your buck.
Additionally, there’s an optional package that will allow you to visit Gibson headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee. And you’ll get to meet Kirk Hammett and Master Luthier Tom Murphy too!
The story of Greeny is shrouded in mystery, but few guitars are as illustrious. Greeny is one of the most iconic original Les Paul Standards ever made, with a unique sound as recognizable as the guitar itself.

Though Gibson hasn’t actually announced a price for the Greeny Les Paul, I’m sure it will be a big one for this premium guitar.
The Greeny Les Paul by Gibson and Kirk Hammett will be available from the 12th of November 2022. However, it will only be available in the USA.
