Do I need to start a record label to distribute my music?
A few distribution companies out there claim that you need a record label to get your music online. This IS NOT the case!
Any artist can now distribute their music to the world’s largest online stores and streaming services without having to start a record label first. Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon, and many more can all be home to your music for free.
When uploading your music to RouteNote and other distributors we ask for a label name (as this is required by a lot of stores and streaming services). However if you don’t have a label or any associated name it’s totally fine! You can put any name you like there, whether it be your artist name, an alias, a collective, or the name of a label you would like to start.
Just make sure it’s not an existing label name or a copyrighted name and you’re set to get your music out to the world.
