How to create your own AI persona in Instagram
Meta launches AI Studio, introducing Creator AI – AI versions of creators, and AI characters – AI based on users’ interests.
Meta AI launches AI Studio. Built using Meta’s open source AI model Llama 3.1, AI Studio brings new AI experiences to Instagram, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, including Creator AI and AI characters.
What is Creator AI?
Creator AI allows creators to generate AI extensions of themselves, to answer common DM questions and story replies on their behalf. This enables fans to get responses faster. AI responses are clearly labeled, so fans know that they’re talking with AI.
How does Creator AI work?
Creator AI is customizable. When a creator chooses to set up Creator AI, they can choose where to pull information from to generate the AI copy of themself. This includes Posts, Reels, Comments, Stories and highlights, Archived stories, Broadcast channels, and Threads posts. Simply tap the tickbox to toggle on and off each sources. Additionally, creators can provide facts, topics to avoid, and share links they want to include in responses, to promote products for example. Before unleashing your AI to the world, you can test and refine Creator AI privately.
As a creator, you can choose who interacts with your AI persona, such as those you don’t follow.
Insights are provided in the Professional Dashboard. Here you can find how your AI is performing, with details like the accounts it engaged with, messages sent and pieces of content shared. This will definitely be reassuring to creators, to ensure their Creator AI isn’t going AWOL.
How to try out Creator AI
Want to try out other creator’s AIs before generating your own? Creator AIs are available on the following accounts: Violetta Benson, Chris Ashley, Violet Benson, Don Allen and Kane Kallaway. If you have access to the feature, you’ll see a Message button with a sparkle icon on the creator’s profile.
The test is rolling out to users in the US over the next few weeks, so not all accounts will see it right away. Beyond being in the US, you will need to be viewing one of the above account from the mobile app.
How to generate your Creator AI
Creator AI is open to professional accounts. Currently, all of the AI Studio features are available to US users only. To create your own Creator AI, head to ai.meta.com/ai-studio and click Get started now.
Alternatively, in the Instagram app, head to your Profession dashboard – Your AI.
What are AI characters?
AI characters allow users to generate their own personalized AI based on their interests. Some of the examples Meta provides include a triva game host, a cooking teacher, a local travel guide, or an AI that can help with inspiration, provide affirmation, fashion trends, funny captions and generate memes.
How do AI characters work?
No tech skills are required to create your own AI from scratch. Simply select from a wide variety of templates to get started, choose a name, avatar, tagline, and enter a description in plain text. Meta will then generate your new AI character based on the information provided.
You can choose whether to keep your character private or share it with friends, followers or everyone. You can even display it on your Instagram profile. AI characters are available for users to interact with across Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and the web.
How to try out AI characters and generate your own
Once again, these new AI Studio features are available to US users only. Meta has provided a few examples for you to try out:
- Eat Like You Live There! – etiquette tips and advice on local dining
- What Lens Bro – tips for finding the perfect camera lens
- Flip Pawsitive Affirmation Dog – a dog that gives you positive affirmation
- Sammy The Stress Ball – helps you get through a stressful day
To create you own, open the Instagram or Messenger app, (on Instagram) head to your inbox, tap the compose icon in the top right corner, and choose the new option labeled “AI chats”. Browse through the existing AI or tap “Create” to make your own.
Diving through the comments on the recent @creators or @mosseri post, and you’ll find a lot of fair criticism and concerns. While a little out there, none of this is totally new. We’ve see similar products from the likes of Character.AI, Replika and OpenAI’s GPT Store. Notably, Creator AIs are optional. Creators have to choose to make one. Likewise, fans can interact with them if they want to and will be notified if they do so. That being said, I’m looking forward to the first unhinged response from a creator’s AI.
Meta want to keep the AI chats fun and helpful. Find out more about AI Studio’s review process, in the policies.
