Desktop users can now upload videos up to 10 minutes long via the web, while app users can now upload videos over 6 hours long!

According to X, the maximum video length for non-Premium subscribers is 140 seconds, with a file limit of 512MB. Subscribe to X Premium, and that limit is increased to 4 hours and 16GB.

However via the web app on desktop, as I discovered today, while the 512MB limit is still in place, the maximum length now seems to be exactly 9 minutes and 59 seconds for free accounts. When attempting to upload a 10 minute or longer video on desktop, you’ll see the familiar “the duration of the video you tried to upload was too long” notification.

The video limit on iOS seems to be significantly higher, with a successful +6 hour video uploaded. When attempting to upload a 12 hour video, this seemed to be too long for X. The file size limit on iOS also appears to be higher than 512MB for free users, however when uploaded, videos will be capped at 720p.

It seems I’m not the only one who has discovered this recent change, with a Reddit thread also discussing the feature.

I’ve tested the feature on multiple free accounts with the same results. Is this a feature that we’ll see announced by X any time soon or is it just a glitch? Only time will tell. If it is a feature, this proves X’s continuation to increase their focus on videos for all users.

Please note, this ability may be actively rolling out and therefore won’t necessarily be available to all users, on all devices, in all countries. Equally, if this is a glitch, it could be patched soon.
