Beats by Dre return with their most affordable wireless earbuds yet in a swanky new case – but with a catch.

The $79.99 Solo Buds are the cheapest true wireless earbuds that Beats have ever launched. The nifty new buds offer the same quality users have come to expect from the audio brand, in four different colours to choose from.

The Solo Buds come in the smallest carrying case that Beats have offered to date. The carrying case and buds come in black, purple, and grey. The final red pair offers an opaque design, reminiscent of the Studio Buds Plus. The carrying case of made from 100% plant-based materials. However, there is a catch to the carrying case for the Solo Buds and why they’re so small.

The carrying case will not come with a battery, hence its smaller size. This means that you won’t be able to recharge your buds from inside the case. On the upside, the Solo Buds earbuds come with an impressive 18 hours of battery life. They are then charged through the carrying case with a USB-C connection. Beats claim that the buds can gain 1 hour of playback from just 5 minutes of charging.

Beats promise that the Solo Buds “deliver big Beats sound with full range and clarity” that is driven by dual-layer and axial-aligned drivers for a better, targeted high-fidelity sound. The buds apparently feature “laser-cut vents” which both improve bass performance whilst relieving the air pressure in the ear.

Beats Solo Buds are available now and can ship within 1 day, if you really want them immediately. You can find out more and choose your colour from the Apple website.
