BBC Music Awards Nominees Include Adele, Ed Sheeran and Foo Fighters
The BBC have announced their nominees for the BBC Music Awards 2015.
The BBC’s second Music Awards will be presented later this month and the BBC have released their nominations for 2015 in advance. There will be awards given out for ‘British Artist of the Year’, ‘International Artist of the Year’ and new addition ‘BBC Live Performance of the Year’.
In the runnings for British Artist of the Year are Adele, Ed Sheeran, Jamie XX, Florence + the Machine, Foals and Years & Years. Adele’s contributions to music this year may have been late (Her new album ’25’ released on 20th October) it’s unsurprising to see the chart topper on the list after breaking multiple records with her new release.
This is the second time Ed Sheeran has been nominated for British Artist of the Year, after winning at the first BBC Music Awards last year, however the award faces a lot of contention with this year’s nominations, especially up against musical phenomenon Adele.
The award for International Artist of the Year seems less like a sure victory with a diverse range of nominees including Foo Fighters, Major Lazer, Prince, Taylor Swift and Hozier. The final nominee is The Weeknd who has seen his breakthrough this year receiving acclaim from critics and music veterans alike, with Tom Jones saying to Noisey: “I love the Weeknd… He’s got one hell of a voice.”
A new award for the best BBC Live Performance of the Year is also up for grabs at the BBC Music Awards 2015. The nominees for BBC Live Performance of the Year are Adele (at the BBC), Florence + the Machine (at Glastonbury), Jeff Lynne’s ELO (Radio 2 in Concert), Lionel Richie (Glastonbury), Radio 1’s Ibiza Prom and Radio 1 Xtra’s Prom (BBC Proms).
The award ceremony will take place on the 10th of December in Birmingham’s Genting Arena in England and will be hosted by British personalities Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton. There will also be performances at the event from Jess Glynne, Ellie Goulding, One Direction, Little Mix, James Bay, Rod Stewart and Mumford and Sons.
