Music professionals and their families can now access 24/7 support with B-LINE, and it’s just a call or text away.

The music industry is at a crucial moment when it comes to conversations around mental health. Now, there’s finally a real step forward. Backline has officially launched B-LINE, a 24/7 mental health and crisis support line built specifically for the music industry.

What is B-LINE?

B-LINE is a dedicated mental health and crisis support line for people working in and around music. That means artists, touring crew, label staff, executives, and even family members within the music community.

It connects callers and texters with trained counselors who understand the unique pressures that come with working in the music industry. Whether that’s the instability, late nights, long tours, and the high pressure. Now, anyone can access it when they need it most.

Support is available right now:

  • Call: 1-855-BLINE99
  • Text: 254-639

Why this matters right now

Mental health conversations in the music industry have become louder, and more urgent in recent times. One moment that really stood out was last year when Chappell Roan used her Best New Artist acceptance speech at the Grammys to call out the lack of care available to artists. Soon after, she launched the We Got You campaign alongside Backline, with other artists and industry players matching her generosity. That moment and Roan’s initiative helped push the conversation into action, spurring on B-LINE’s creation.

B-LINE is a part of that bigger shift, with the numbers showing just how serious the issue is. Industry data show that suicide rates among musicians are nearly 10x the national average for men. On top of that, 73% of independent musicians report symptoms of mental illness, with a recent 2025 poll finding that 8.3% of respondents had experienced suicidal thoughts in 2025. Clearly, it’s not a niche issue, but more of a sector-wide problem. Now, B-LINE will offer 24/7 care for the first time.

Built by people who know the industry

Backline isn’t new to this work. The organization has invested around $3.5 million into mental health and wellness support across the music industry since 2019, serving over 84,000 people in the process. The team has long fielded urgent calls where waiting for help simply wasn’t an option.

But one gap kept showing up: real-time support in moments of crisis. That’s exactly what B-LINE is built to provide. Immediate, confidential support, 24/7, with the ability to connect people into longer-term care when needed.

“This has always been the dream. We’ve supported thousands of music industry professionals in their mental health and wellness journeys, but one critical piece was missing: real time access to care. B-LINE changes that.”

Hilary Gleeson, Backline co-founder and Executive Director

Backed by major industry support

Spotify is a lead partner behind the launch, helping Backline bring the vision for B-LINE to life. Additional support comes from the likes of Ayden, AEG Presents, The Busyhead Project, Red Light Management, and Wasserman Foundation. All of whom have been “key in advancing our [Backline’s] mission over the past six years”.

Noah Kahan, who has previously worked with Backline to support mental health services for his touring band and crew, is among those backing the initiative and pushing for more accessible care for people behind the scenes as well as on stage:

“I started working with Backline to provide mental health services for my touring band and crew in 2023. Support for the wellbeing of the incredibly hard working artists and people that make the music industry function has long been neglected. A dedicated 24 hour hotline is the first step toward accessing critical mental health support. The Busyhead Project and I are proud to work with Backline to create a pathway toward a healthier future and an entry point for accessing resources.”

B-LINE is now live. If you or someone on your team needs support, help is available any time, day, or night. Backline’s trusted online help hub also remains available for ongoing mental health and wellness at backline.care.
