Avid has released a new update for Media Composer, its specialist software for audio and film editing.

Rekkerd reports that Avid has announced the latest version of Media Composer which now has a number of new features designed to “significantly speed up the post-production process between editorial and audio post teams”.

Now, Media Composer and its new features will make workflows more efficient by bringing video and audio post teams closer together. The first of these features is a new Media Composer user interface that now includes a new project creation setting that can create a project format “with the editor’s media with one click”. Moreover, Media Compoers’s new UI offers suggestions that guide new users through its project set-up process so that new users can get to work with little fuss.

Another new feature gives professionals the ability to export Media Composer sequences directly into Pro Tools. Now, Avid allows audio and video professionals to export complex sequences with video, audio, and metadata in a single .PTX file that can then be opened in Pro Tools.

Rekkerd reports “this is the first step in delivering ground-breaking collaborative workflows between Media Composer and Pro Tools,”, identified as a “critical need” during Avid’s customer workshops. Now, this seamless integration will allow the developer to introduce “a differentiated set of capabilities not available in the market today”.

Furthermore, Media Composers has full support for Avid’s MBOX Studio audio interface, giving editors the tools for recording, punch-ins, and multichannel monitoring of sequences in up to 7.1 surround sound. And Avid has even improved Media Composer’s media management functionality by “simplifying the media relink workflow and improving performance around the ability to find paths to previously linked files”. Coupled together, this means users have access to a seamless workflow for creating professional content while being able to locate all content within the relink window to easily re-establish broken paths if any of it is lost.
