The new XB100 is the most portable speaker in Sony’s range of speakers, boasting a small size of 178 X 50 X 178 mm.

It may only be a small speaker, but it packs a rich, bassy sound which is uncommon for speakers of this size and for this price.

Sony XB100

Sony’s XB100 speaker hosts an off-centre diaphragm designed to enhance audio fidelity no matter the volume, and Sony state there’s a “sound diffusion processor” which helps to spread the XB100’s audio beyond its dimensions.

You’ll get up to 16 hours of continuous battery life and you don’t need to worry too much about water and dust thanks to the IP67 rating. Sony says the XB100 has a UV coating which further protects it.

Meanwhile, the design resembles its predecessor, the XB13, with the shape removable fabric strap which allows you to hang the speaker someone for further versatility. Furthermore, its textured finish makes the XB100 easier to grip and gives it a more premium look compared to the previous model.

The size of the speaker means the sound isn’t stereo. Chris Welch from The Verge notes that “Sony pairs a passive radiator with a mono speaker”.

“Unlike the company’s more premium Bluetooth devices, you can’t do any EQ customization with the $60 XB100 from the Sony Music mobile app,” he continues.

The XB100 is available in a small range of colours including blue, orange, grey and black. Included is a USB-C charging cable which The Verge reports is quite short while the USB-C charging port is protected with a rubber flap.

The Sony XB100 is available for $59.99 from the Sony online store, Best Buy, and Amazon.
