Spotify celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islanders in music this month
Spotify have launched ‘Our Roots. Our Sound.’ to join Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
In case you didn’t know it’s Heritage Month for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, we’ve told you thrice now so you should! Spotify certainly do, as they’ve launched a new campaign to highlight and celebrate musicians of Asian origins and blood.
“Our Roots. Our Sound.” launches a brand new hub on Spotify filled with music and podcasts from AAPI creators. They have worked alongside artists like Eric Nam, Jai Wolf, Stephanie Poetri, Yuna, Rich Brian, and Steve Aoki to built their Amplify hub featuring Spotify playlists, ‘This Is’ artist showcases, and more.
Singer songwriter mxmtoon says: “I’m so honoured to be a part of Spotify’s campaign and help share my story as an Asian American with people across the world. It means a lot to me to think about how I could tell my five-year-old self she would eventually see her story reflected in the media.
“Being a part of Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month makes me hope that other people can see a small bit of themselves in my story. It’s a gift to do that for others and for my past self! Representation is so important, and I’m so thankful to have my voice be a part of this campaign.”
The Amplify: Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month hub is available now for listeners in the U.S. and Canada. Spotify will be updating the hub with exclusive content throughout May.
Spotify says: “Now, during a time when togetherness and kindness have become increasingly important, we hope that Our Roots. Our Sound. will help create a space for inclusion and celebrate what makes the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities special.”
