Pandora AMP has launched Artist Station Takeover Modes, allowing musicians to curate music and add voice commentary to their own artist stations for a three-month period.

Pandora is giving artists a new way to connect with listeners through its Artist Marketing Platform (AMP). Its new Artist Station Takeover Modes feature lets musicians take the reins of their artist stations, choosing which tracks play and adding their own voice recordings to introduce music and share stories.

Announced on the 27th of October, the feature builds on Pandora’s long-standing focus on station-based listening, giving artists more involvement in an experience that has traditionally been shaped by the platform’s own listening modes.

Artists can curate their own Pandora station modes

Pandora has offered different listening modes for years, including Crowd Faves, Discovery, Deep Cuts and Newly Released. However, artists haven’t previously been able to create their own custom mode directly on their artist station.

With Takeover Modes, artists can now create a personalised mix using tracks from Pandora’s catalogue, with the option to upload voice recordings to accompany their selections. This could be an opportunity to introduce listeners to musical influences, spotlight collaborators or share the stories behind particular songs.

There are a few requirements to be aware of. Each Takeover Mode must contain at least 80 tracks to comply with DMCA requirements, and artists can only have one published mode on their station at a time. Each takeover runs for three months.

Within AMP, artists will find Modes alongside the existing Stations and Playlists options when creating a new programme.

Pandora adds more ways to understand listener engagement

Artists won’t be left guessing how their takeover is performing. Pandora AMP provides analytics covering active listeners, total listening hours, average session length, skip rate and the total number of radio spins.

These figures could help artists understand which selections are holding listeners’ attention and whether their commentary is encouraging people to stick around.

The update also fits into Pandora’s wider development of AMP’s artist marketing tools. Its recent Campaign Recommendations feature uses artist profile and audience data to suggest promotional opportunities, helping musicians identify tracks and activity worth putting behind a campaign.

Together, these tools give artists more ways to take an active role in how listeners discover and engage with their music on Pandora. For independent musicians, that means thinking beyond simply getting tracks onto streaming platforms; curation, storytelling and understanding audience behaviour can all play a part in building a connection with listeners.
