Premium users in the US and Canada can now use prompts to curate their own AI-powered playlists.

Prompted Playlists roll out to more markets

Spotify is officially bringing Prompted Playlists to more markets. After first testing Prompted Playlists with Premium users in New Zealand, the streaming platform is now rolling out the feature in beta to Premium listeners in the US and Canada. The feature, which lets users describe the playlist they want Spotify to generate, begins hitting the US and Canada today and should arrive fully by the end of the month.

A quick refresher: What are Prompted Playlists?

The tool was first introduced late last year as a limited test, giving select users the ability to create playlists by describing what they want to hear in their own words. Instead of adding songs one by one or relying on Spotify’s curated playlists, users can simply type out a prompt and Spotify builds a playlist. It uses your listening history, real-time charts and cultural context alongside the prompt to cook up something you’d like.

You can even lean on Spotify’s examples or tap “Ideas” for some quick inspiration.

How listeners are using the feature so far

Alongside the expansion, Spotify has shared some early insights into how listeners have been experimenting with Prompted Playlists in New Zealand.

Some users are asking for “songs tied to specific moments, like late nights during the winter, while filtering out tracks they’ve overplayed recently.” Others are looking for lyric-free playlists to get them through the workday distraction-free, occasionally throwing in the artists that are currently at the pinnacle of pop culture and viral moments.

What comes next?

Spotify has made it clear that personalization remains a major focus. Prompted Playlists build on that. With the beta now live in the US and Canada, it will be interesting to see how listeners use the tool on a wider scale.

As with any feature in testing, Spotify adds that some aspects may evolve as they learn from listeners’ experiences and their feedback. With that, usage limits may be in place as Spotify continues to learn and reshape the tool.
