Spotify DJ adds text requests and Spanish language support
Spotify has updated its AI DJ’s features to give listeners even more control.
Spotify’s AI-powered DJ has just received an upgrade that makes music discovery even more personal. The feature, known for combining AI technology with insights from Spotify’s global editorial team, now allows Premium users to send text requests, make Spanish-language requests, and enjoy personalised prompts that help set the perfect mood for any moment.
According to Spotify, these new tools are designed to give listeners “even more control.” Since the company first introduced voice requests earlier this year, there’s been a noticeable rise in DJ listening. Now, users can type what they want to hear directly into the app, a feature that works seamlessly in both English and Spanish.
Typing requests adds a new level of flexibility for moments when speaking out loud isn’t ideal, like during a commute or when you’re in a quiet space. As TechCrunch pointed out, this move mirrors the broader trend of conversational AI tools, where users are becoming comfortable switching between voice and text input – much like they already do with services such as Siri or ChatGPT. It’s a natural next step for Spotify, reflecting the growing integration of AI into daily habits and interactions.
Spanish-speaking listeners are also getting a boost with DJ Livi, Spotify’s Spanish-language version of the DJ. Users can now request songs and playlists in Spanish, asking for anything from “clásicos de reggaetón de los 2000” to “canciones tranqui para desconectarte.”
For those who aren’t sure what to ask for, Spotify’s AI now offers three personalised suggestions to get the music flowing. These prompts might include “reggaeton beats for an energetic afternoon” or “refreshing surf rock for a midday break,” helping users find inspiration when they’re unsure of what fits the vibe. This update complements Spotify’s continued investment in interactive listening, including features that let creators use the Spotify library within DJ software, making it easier to experiment with mixes and discover new sounds.
To access the feature, Premium users simply search for “DJ” on Spotify, press play, and tap the DJ button in the bottom-right corner to give their request – either by speaking or typing. The AI can respond to prompts that combine genres, moods, artists, or activities, like “play some cosy folk music for autumn” or “give me spooky tunes for my Halloween party.” These additions build on Spotify’s growing use of conversational AI and follow earlier improvements such as voice requests, continuing to make the platform’s DJ feel more human and adaptive.
“These latest enhancements are all about giving listeners more ways to interact with DJ and make each session their own,” Spotify said in its announcement. With the update now available in English and Spanish across more than 60 markets, it’s clear that the company wants to make music listening as intuitive and inclusive as possible.
