Fans can now see just how much buzz upcoming releases are generating, as Spotify makes pre-save numbers public for the first time.

Spotify has introduced a new feature that will make pre-release campaigns more transparent for both artists and fans. Starting September 29, the streaming platform began displaying pre-save counts on its Top 10 Countdown Pages, available through the Upcoming Releases hub. The update makes Spotify the first major service to show pre-save numbers publicly at scale.

The Top 10 shelf, refreshed every day at 12:00 PM ET, now highlights the most pre-saved releases globally. Each entry shows not only its current ranking but also the total number of pre-saves collected since the Countdown Page first went live. These figures are visible to all listeners, whether they’re on a Free or Premium plan, and are accessible worldwide.

Spotify says that this is designed to increase transparency around how Countdown Charts are powered, while also encouraging artists and labels to think more strategically about their pre-release campaigns. By surfacing these numbers, the company aims to show how fan engagement directly fuels visibility on the platform. For artists, it provides a way to measure excitement and momentum before a release drops.

The update also shows Countdown Pages as a key promotional tool. By tying them directly to visible metrics, Spotify is offering a new way to benchmark success, refine marketing strategies, and build anticipation among listeners. Standout campaigns will not only drive higher pre-save counts but also benefit from additional exposure across the Upcoming Releases hub, Countdown Charts, and Spotify for Artists’ social channels.

For fans, the change offers a clearer picture of which records are generating the most anticipation globally. It turns pre-saving into something more exciting, allowing listeners to see how their engagement contributes to the buzz surrounding an upcoming album or single.
