Bruno Mars breaks Spotify record with 150 million monthly listeners
A record-breaking achievement by Bruno Mars cements his dominance in music streaming.
Bruno Mars may just be in the midst of a generational run, breaking records with every track release. On January 27, Mars became the first artist in Spotify history to surpass 150 million monthly listeners.
This achievement comes just two months after Mars dethroned The Weeknd’s record of 120.7 million monthly listeners, hitting 130 million in December. With Spotify reporting 630 million active users in Q3 2024, Mars’ audience accounts for almost one-quarter of the platform’s global user base– a truly astonishing feat.
Bruno Mars’ ascent to 150 million monthly listeners come off the back of his recent collaborations. His duet with Lady Gaga, Die With a Smile, became the fastest track in Spotify history to reach one billion streams. On top of this, the track earned Grammy nominations for Song of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Following this, Mars featured on ROSÉ’s APT., which also shattered the billion-stream barrier in record time. Together, these tracks mean that Mars has the two fastest songs to hit a billion plays on Spotify.
Mars isn’t slowing down, keeping the momentum alive with fresh collaborations. His latest track, Fat Juicy & Wet, is a high-energy track with Sexyy Red that dropped last week. The music video, featuring cameos from Lady Gaga, BLACKPINK’s ROSÉ, and Mars himself, has already racked up 8.9 millions views in just four days.
Mars’ massive monthly listener count is also a testament to his timeless discography. In fact, Mars has 17 songs surpassing one billion streams each. With hits including Locked Out of Heaven, Just the Way You Are, and more, Mars’ success is hardly surprising.
Without a solo album in over eight years, since his 24K Magic LP, Mars continues to prove his everlasting popularity. Whether a new album is on the horizon or he’s simply having fun with his collaborators, one thing is certain: Bruno Mars is setting the stage for even more milestones ahead.
