Bruno Mars is smashing Spotify listener stats without even releasing an album
Bruno Mars has managed to become the most listened to artist on Spotify, despite not releasing an album for over eight years.
For some time now, The Weeknd has pretty much secured the top spot of No.1 Spotify artist for monthly listeners. Now, Bruno Mars has claimed that title and broken a record, all thanks to two hit duets.
Mars has a substantial catalogue of evergreen tracks – songs that get played over and over again all year round. This certainly has contributed to the streaming statistics success for the artist, but two relatively new duets have helped boost up the numbers.
- Die With A Smile was released in August 2024, and is a duet with Mars and Lady Gaga. The track recently surpassed a billion streams on Spotify.
- APT. is a duet with ROSÉ (a member of Korean supergroup BLACKPINK), and since its release in October 2024 it has amassed nearly half a billion streams on Spotify.
On October 29th Mars overtook The Weeknd as the Spotify artist with the most monthly listeners. Then, just a day later, Mars broke the record for most monthly listeners on Spotify. The Weeknd’s previous record of 120.7 million was smashed by Mars’ 126 million monthly listeners.
Bruno Mars didn’t stop there with the record breaking. On November 12th, Mars made history and became the first artist to surpass 130 million monthly listeners. Keeping the momentum going, by November 25th he had broken the record again, exceeding 135 million monthly listeners. Since then, the number has continued to steadily increase.
November truly was a month of successes for Bruno Mars, with Die With A Smile Grammy nominations for Song of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, as well as becoming the fastest ever track to reach one billion streams.
These stats are inceredibly impressive considering Mars hasn’t released a solo album since his third LP, 24K Magic, back in 2016. The most recent album the star worked on was 2021’s An Evening With Silk Sonic in collaboration with Anderson .Paak.
Bruno Mars’ record-breaking success on Spotify raises the question: how much higher can his streaming numbers climb? With no new solo album in nearly a decade, these achievements suggest there’s still plenty of room for more milestones.
