Billie Eilish Crowned Apple Music’s Artist of the Year 2024
Apple Music has unveiled the winners of its 2024 Apple Music Awards, with Billie Eilish grabbing the prestigious title of Artist of the Year. This marks a historic achievement, as Billie becomes the first artist to win the award twice since its creation in 2019, showing her unparalleled popularity and influence within the music industry.
2024 was a pretty special year for Billie. She began the year by securing two Grammy Awards for her song, What Was I Made For?, which won “Song of the Year” and “Best Song Written for Visual Media”. The song, featured in the iconic Barbie movie, resonated with audiences and marked a culturally significant moment. Shortly after, she released her third full-length album, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, an album that has not only showcased her growth as an artist but also solidified her reputation as one of the boldest voices in pop music.
Upon its release, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT soared to No.1 on Apple Music’s all-genre albums chart in 138 countries. The album’s lead single LUNCH, was followed by the likes of BIRDS OF A FEATHER which became viral sensations globally. Most notably, Billie’s performance of the latter garnered widespread attention during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. The performance sparked a surge in Shazam activity and boosted the song’s sales. Billie’s collaboration with Charli XCX on Guess, helped add to the viral Brat Summer movement, demonstrating Billie’s cultural impact this year.
Billie’s accolades didn’t stop there. Her work across the year has earned seven additional Grammy nominations, including nominations for “Record of the Year”, “Song of the Year”, and “Album of the Year” for work from HIT ME HARD AND SOFT. She has also received nominations for “Best Dance Pop Recording” for the Over Now Extended Edit of L’Amour De Ma Vie, and “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” for her collaboration with Charli XCX.
Reflecting on Billie’s outstanding year, Apple Music’s Rachel Newman praised Billie, saying her ability to evolve “bravely and honestly” makes her growth “truly remarkable”. Having followed Billie’s journey since her Ocean Eyes days, I wholeheartedly agree that her latest album not only showcases her growth but also cements her place as a defining figure in mainstream music.
The Apple Music Awards celebrate the best and boldest musicians who have made a significant impact on global culture. Previous winners include Billie Eilish in 2019, Lil Baby (2020), The Weeknd (2021), Bad Bunny (2022), and Taylor Swift (2023).
Given her outstanding musical achievements and cultural significance, this year’s Apple Music Artist of the Year title is a well-deserved and fitting acknowledgment of Billie’s remarkable impact and artistry.
