Song Writing Competition

Browsing the SoundCloud blog I just noticed this group of songwriters trying to get a competition going; all you have to do is write a 1 minute song – the most dramatic song wins.

I think this is an excellent idea for a competition and a good test of your songwriting skills. Please take a look at this group and submit your entry. All you need is a SoundCloud account and some way of recording your music, oh and some talent and a bit of taste.

If you want an idea of what you’ll be up against, listen to the group’s set below.

Buy A Song From Damon Albarn

Damon AlbarnIn response to the disastrous earthquake in Haiti, a number of high profile events have been organised to raise money for the relief effort. Damon Albarn, Blur frontman and Gorillaz creator has teamed up with Oxfam to offer his song-writing services in an eBay auction, the winner of which will win “a recording of a bespoke piece of music written by Damon Albarn. (Copyright Retained)… for their exclusive personal use (*subject to terms & conditions). * The winning bidder will need to sign a contract before receiving this piece of music”. Whether the music can be comercially exploited will be down to the terms of the contract, terms of which have not yet been publicised. The shadow of these limitations hasn’t discouraged bidders, who have already pushed the price up to £5,100 (the auction ends on the 2nd of Feb).

There are a lot more items up for sale on eBay through the same channel, including the Chemical Brothers’ drum machine and the Arctic Monkeys’ lead guitar.
