YouTube Music is giving lyric sharing a visual upgrade, using AI-generated images to make sharing lyrics more eye-catching across social platforms.

A more visual way to share lyrics

YouTube Music first introduced lyric sharing last June, letting users select up to five lines of lyrics and place them over simple, colored backgrounds. Now, the platform is taking things up a level according to 9to5Google. Instead of sticking to simple colors, users can generate custom background images using AI.

How does it work?

The core experience hasn’t changed much. Just like before, you’ll need to head to the “Lyrics” tab while listening to a track and tap “Share”. But this time, the “Share” button has been refreshed with a Gemini spark to mark the start of something new.

From there, you can select up to five lines of lyrics, just as before. The difference appears when choosing a background. Alongside the standard color options, there’s now an AI-powered choice that generates a custom image to sit behind the lyrics.

YouTube Music then lets you know that you’re “Creating with AI”, clearly labelling the feature as experimental. The generated visuals are influenced by the lyrics themselves, aiming to produce imagery that feels fitting with what’s being shared.

Not happy with the image that’s been generated? No problem. Simply tap the button again to generate another one.

Once finished, the lyric image can be shared directly to social media, sent to friends, or saved for later use.

Wrapping up

This update also sits alongside YouTube Music’s wider use of AI tools. Features like “Ask for Music”, which lets users prompt AI into curating a radio station based on what you’ve asked for, show the platform experimenting with AI to drive the music streaming experience forward.

The updated lyric-sharing feature is rolling out to both free users and YouTube Premium subscribers in the US, across iOS and Android devices.

While it might not steal headlines, it does make lyric sharing more visually appealing. And for artists, this kind of upgrade helps lyrics travel further and hopefully reach new audiences.
