Jewels are a new digital currency on YouTube, letting you purchase gifts to support your favorite live streamers.

At this year’s Made on YouTube event, we saw the announcement of gifts powered by Jewels, alongside other new features such as Hype, AI video tools in Shorts, Community updates, AI-powered auto-dubbing and more.

Creators earning revenue on YouTube and live streams aren’t slowing down on YouTube. According to the video streaming platform, “tens of thousands of channels have more than doubled their earnings from Fan Funding year over year.” Also, YouTube says “Creators earning from live streams uploaded in the US grew over 20% year over year.” This latest feature addition brings a new ways for fans to show their appreciation to creators, support them and for creators to earning money via livestreams.

Jewels are a new digital currency on YouTube that can be used to purchase digital gifts to send to creators. They are being launched for vertical livestreams. This real-time engagement tool enables a 2-way connection between creators and fans, with audiences’ gifts showing in the comment stream, while creators are rewarded for their livestream.

The examples shown in the video above shows purchasing blocks of between 50 and 4,000 jewels ranging in price from $0.99 to $49.99. Gifts also ranging in value, with such examples between 10 and 250 jewels.

Gifts powered by Jewels are rolling out in the US on vertical livestreams over the coming months. We’ve seen very similar fan funding features from other social media platforms, such as Stars on Instagram.
