Fairphone is reportedly bringing its repair-first approach to a new generation of wireless earbuds. Fairbuds 2 put repairability first
The standout feature of the Fairbuds 2 is their modular design which makes the earbuds repairable. With the Fairbuds 2, Fairphone has confirmed to The Verge that the earbuds will feature seven fully replaceable parts, continuing the approach used in the original model.
Rather than replacing an entire pair when a component fails, users can replace individual parts such as the batteries in the earbuds and charging case. For the first generation, users could also replace individual earbuds.
This makes the Fairbuds 2 a more practical long-term purchase. Repairable hardware offers the potential to extend a product’s useful life and reduce electronic waste, rather than treating a faulty component as a reason to buy a new pair.
LDAC brings improved wireless audio support
The other major upgrade is support for Sony’s LDAC Bluetooth codec. The original Fairbuds support SBC and AAC, while LDAC allows compatible devices to transmit more audio data over Bluetooth.
For music listeners, this opens the door to high-resolution wireless playback when using compatible hardware and suitable audio sources. Producers and musicians might also appreciate the option for everyday listening, checking mixes or enjoying reference tracks away from the studio.
Fairbuds 2 price and availability
Fairphone is set to launch the Fairbuds 2 in Europe on 14 October 2026, with the US release following on 2 November 2026.
The earbuds will cost €119 in Europe and $119 in the US. That makes the European launch price €30 lower than the original Fairbuds’ launch price, although the first-generation model has since been discounted in some markets. You can buy the original Fairbuds for $99 on Amazon.
Fairphone has yet to reveal the complete specifications ahead of launch, so details such as battery life, noise cancellation and other audio features should be confirmed before drawing comparisons with competing wireless earbuds.
For now, the Fairbuds 2 look like an interesting option for listeners who want wireless convenience without sacrificing repairability. The combination of replaceable components and LDAC support gives Fairphone’s latest earbuds a distinct angle in a crowded market.
