Take your vinyl wherever you go, with Toshiba’s new wireless record player
Ever fancied spinning some wax while you’re luxuriating outdoors? Well, thanks to Toshiba, you can.
Last week, Toshiba announced a new record player that enables vinyl fans to bring their collection with them anywhere they like. As The Verge points out, the Aurex AX-RP10 is no match for the iPod or even a Sony Walkman in terms of portability, however it is very much carryable for outings to the park or beach. The question is, does it sound any good?
The Aurex AX-RP10 has been designed for portability. It can be used completely wirelessly and is small enough to fit into its included handy carry case, all while accommodating 12 inch vinyl. It’s the built in lithium-ion battery – which is charged via USB-C – that makes this record player completely portable. The battery is 2,000mAh and, according to Toshiba, should last 10 hours – so just about enough for a full day out. This wireless turntable is also compatible with 7 inch records, so you can spin both your 33 1/3 and 45 rpm vinyl.
The record player doesn’t have any built-in speakers of its own, but you can keep it completely wireless by using a Bluetooth speaker. Thanks to the Bluetooth connectivity, there’s also the option to listen to records through wireless headphones too. The downside here is that the analogue sound you love so much from vinyl records will be compressed if listening via Bluetooth. But, this isn’t exactly a product for cut-throat audiophiles, if we’re realistic.
It is a great product for newbie vinyl collectors, though. An arm lifter allows users to carefully and easily lift the and drop the needle. There is also a handily included auto stop feature, which means the turntable stops spinning when the record finishes – preventing any unnecessary battery usage.
A feature that Toshiba seems particularly keen to boast is the ability to display your record sleeves while listening. Part of the joy of collecting and listening to vinyl is enjoying the carefully designed and composed artwork, so it is nice to be able to show that off with the AX-RP10.
There hasn’t been any information around pricing released just yet, but the record player is supposed to be available for purchase some time in April.
