TikTok now gives you control over how much AI content you see on your For You Page
TikTok is introducing new AI controls and upgraded content labels, giving users more power over their feeds.
AI-generated content is taking over social media feeds. They’re often weird, sometimes funny, but they can also be straight up misleading. With all this in mind, TikTok’s latest new feature helps address AI content head on.
The platform is rolling out a new tool that lets users choose how much AI content they want to see on their For You Page. Meanwhile, it’s also boosting the visibility of AI content labels and investing in new safety education around AI.
A new AI filter for your FYP
The main talking point is the addition of an AI-generated content filter to TikTok’s “Manage Topics” section. Inside the Manage Topics menu, users can already choose what they want to see more (or less) of from over 10 categories like Dance, Sports, and Food & Drinks.
Now, AI-generated content is joining that list. It works on a slider, so you can actively choose to see more AI content, or slide it down if you’re tired of seeing AI slop.
How to reduce the AI content you see on TikTok
Whether you’ve had enough of AI videos or just want to see more human content, adjusting your preferences is easy. There’s two ways you can go about it:
- Go to Settings > Content Preferences > Manage Topics > Drag the slider
- Tap Share on a video from your FYP > Why this video > Adjust your For You > Manage Topics > Drag the slider
Upgraded AI content labels
TikTok is strengthening its labelling of AI content too, improving the transparency around AI content on the platform. Currently, TikTok already requires people to label realistic AI-generated content and uses C2PA Content Credentials which enables TikTok and other platforms to identify AI-generated videos.
The problem? The label often gets lost once AI videos are uploaded or edited elsewhere. To solve this, TikTok is now launching “invisible watermarks”. These new watermarks can only be read by TikTok, making them harder to remove and easily traceable regardless of any edits being made. For users, artists, and creators, this helps ensure any AI-generated content is more reliably labelled.
TikTok’s positive AI push
To round it off, TikTok is also launching a $2 million fund to support experts (like GirlsWhoCode) to create content that teaches people about identifying AI content and staying safe.
It’s part of TikTok’s wider approach to creating innovative AI features, while keeping it safe for users and creators. Last month, TikTok revealed two new AI-powered tools (Outline and Smartsplit) designed to help creators.
The bigger picture
Crucially, the move comes at a time where AI content is flooding social media platforms. Just look at platforms like Meta, who has launched an entire feed dedicated to AI videos.
Now, TikTok is giving users more control over how much AI content they see. With clearer labels, better education, and a simple way to dial down AI on your FYP, the platform is helping us better understand and choose the content we’re watching.
